TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2009
The pond is frozen over - will it hold my weight? I venture only a couple of feet from shore, then get down to see the frozen air bubbles. For some reason some of the bubbles still have snow on them. Under the larger ones is a tube down to the unfrozen water. If you jump up and down on the ice, you can see the water moving in the tube.
Elsewhere, a crack in the ice cuts above the dead leaves and green water plants on the bottom of the pond. The fuzzy white blobs are tiny bubbles in the ice, and you can see a surface crazing.
