We went berry picking in the mountains. The Black Huckleberry is the sweetest and best-tasting of the blueberries, but only grows around 3,000-4,000 feet above sea level. So up we went! Ginnie, Sue, her two dogs, and I spent 3 days picking.
Some ground lichen and club moss on the trail.
Our campsite was on the site of an old logging landing deck, and there was a gigantic pile of old logs - a handy source of fire wood! It is a shelf on the edge of a steep, steep valley, with a gorgeous view up the Deception Creek valley.
Here's the view across the valley to the next ridge. You can see how the land just drops off! That ridge, and on to the right, are part of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area in the Cascade Mountains. We were camping on the Mt Baker/Snoqualmie National Forest land.
