Here is one of the huge sandstone boulders that dot the valleys in this part of Ohio. We called this one "Daddy Rock" because it is the largest one around, and sits right in front of the house. (You can actually see the windows in the upper left corner.) We climbed all over it and the other rocks, favorite places and hidey holes.
The skunk came to visit, nibbling at the bird seed on the ground. He has an unusual amount of white, making him quite striking!
This house was built by the family of one of David's high school friends. They designed and built the house themselves 20 years ago. It is like a fairy tale castle, with slate roofs, a moat, cobblestone driveway and lots of salvaged pieces. They went to old buildings that were being torn down and rescued paneling, fireplace surrounds, timbers, beams, trims, doors - anything and everything! The inside of the house is amazing with all of those wonderful things. Outside, lots of stonework, arches, tables made from millstones. An amazing piece of work, well-loved.
