The Hindenburg
70th Anniversary

The Hindenburg was over 800 feet long, and was the first of what was to be a fleet for Nazi Germany. The explosion occurred 70 years ago at Lakehurst, New Jersey, and ended that dream. The Zeppelin Company is still in business in Germany, though.

My father was stationed there when he was in the navy during the war, and flew in the "lighter than air" ships, patrolling the coast. So I've always had an interest in dirigibles and blimps. Maybe some day I'll be able to take a ride in one of the Goodyear blimps.
