Another of my weekend projects was to clean up this garage-sale chair and paint it. I wasn't sure about the color - it's paler than I wanted, but it's growing on me. I wanted to have something comfortable to sit on in the garden.
Although it was cool and cloudy today, this hardy bee was in the lavender. He wasn't moving very fast, so I hope he makes it back to the hive!

My variegated jasmine vine has been struggling for years, but this year has really blossomed out and grown! It doesn't have much scent, sadly, but has lovely blossoms covering the vine.
While I was looking at it, this bee frantically buzzed from bloom to bloom, scouring the plant for any little tidbits of pollen left. He didn't stay long in one place, so is a bit blurry!

It was pre-dusk, and the bird chatter was reaching an angry climax, when I heard the owl calling. Turns out it had gotten too close to someone's nest, and the whole area was in an avian uproar. The poor owl ghosted from tree to tree, following by a rag-tag flock of angry bird parents.

I recycled some of David's blue jeans into a field bag - something I can drag around with me when I wander down in the woods or beach. It was a very fun project - I used the top part, with the front pocket and back pocket, and I even added the other back pocket to the inside to have another pocket there.
I cut the waistband off another pair of jeans to use as the handle. I sewed the buttonhole and button to the bag, and can use the long handle over my shoulder, or remove it and button the shorter parts together to have a short strap.

Day lilies are blooming! Love the yellows.
As does this spider, who had a web stretching from one blossom to another. Since they are, of course, day lilies, I don't know quite what will happen when the bloom falls.

Heres' what's left of the fireworks after the big show. Crate after crate of pipes, which were filled with bombs and sawdust.
Next to the crates at the boat ramp, the combination of a holiday weekend, warm sunny weather, and the opening of crabbing season filled the area with boaters. It is always entertaining to watch the loading and launching of the boats. This guy sat in the boat and drove it right up the trailer. Thank goodness he stopped in time! Plenty of folks waiting their turn.

Fireworks at the Freeland Park. It was a lovely night, warm and still. Lots of people came to see the show.
The fireworks are shot from a barge out in the harbor - in some of the photos you can see the light reflectioned on the water.
Afterwards, the smoke drifted across the area where the bands had played, and the food booths and other activities. Flags spotlighted in the night.
And at the party we attended, Leah the Fire Dancer performed for us - always a great show!

It seems to be a bumper year for berries already! The salmon berries are still going strong, and now the thimbleberries are ripening. This bush is just outside my back door, and although a little fuzzy, they are very tasty.
And near the bush (and back door) this swallow mom is building a nest with her mate. They get really unhappy every time we open or go in or out of the door, but, they'll just have to get used to us. Here she is perched on my chair, giving me a piece of her mind. I come out and eat lunch with them, to get them used to me. Doesn't seem to be working too well.
