It started out cool and cloudy, but when the sun came out it warmed right up! Turned into a pretty day - David is heading off for a week of fishing at Olson's Resort on the Straits of Juan de Fuca first thing in the morning, so he spent all day packing and getting fishing and camping and boat gear together. They have a webcam pointed at the marina, so I'll be able to keep an eye on them!!

Suze and Brenda and I went to the Choochokum Arts Festival today - lots of booths, music, food and entertainment!

I love the shadows on the wall behind the fireweed. I started by shooting the pink flowers against the green leaves of a maple tree, then I just happened to point the camera this direction. They're almost done - those long spikes are the seeds, and there are just a few flowers at the top of the stalks.

I also got these thimbleberries against the green - they look surreal, but they're really that red, and the unripe one is pink. And, there's an old dried-up berry, too - it's been a good year for the berries so far, and the blackberries are yet to come.

Cooled down a good 15-20 degrees today - much, much better! We're still above the average temperature for this time of year, but it feels great after yesterday's heat. The meadow at the edge of the lawn is filled with grasses - so many, and they're all different.

Hot, HOt, HOT!!! Record-breaking heat today - it got over 100 degrees on the mainland. We were a bit cooler here, maybe 95 or so. Waaaay too hot for me, but our house stays pretty cool, so we managed. Too hot to take photos - it was all I could do to go out in that sun. The lawn is completely brown and crispy - at least we won't have to mow very often. All the plants and animals are gasping for air, hoping for cool water...

We've had the flag up for a while - early in the morning and later in the evening the sun shines behind it - I had never thought about the flag being tranlucent. It shines in all it's glory!
