Went to Coupeville this evening to attend a talk by photographer Sam Abell. That's him on the left, below. He worked for National Geographic for over 30 years, getting on the cover 3 times. He has been teaching a week-long workshop at the Coupeville Arts Center 13 years, and gives a talk each time.
He was very entertaining, and showed a lot of his awesome photos, and talked about how he took the photos and what was right about them, and what was wrong. I really enjoyed it!Afterwards, a little bit of sunset color over Penn Cove.

It's Fair Time! Cathi and I submitted our photos and other art and craft entries, then walked to Langley and had pizza at Village Pizzeria, sitting in the new dining area overlooking the Passage.

Paul Howard stopped by to show us his train cooker, which he recently had repainted and spruced up.
He had the back part enclosed for more cooking space, and the painter added traveling scenery, along with gold accents and painted rivets that look real!
He has moved to Seattle and is hoping to get the catering and rentals going again. It looks great, and he has added lights and train sounds, as well.

It has been so dry all summer, the grass has stopped growing. But the wildflowers are thriving in the lawn, here backlit by the setting sun. Two different views from the camera give very different images.

On the drive home yesterday along Chuckanut Drive, a view of the San Juan Islands and some shipping traffic as the sun gets lower.
Further south in the Skagit Flats, a field of potato blossoms beneath thunderheads hiding Mt Baker.

Met up with Rick, Jackie, Jennifer and her husband for a hike to Fragrance Lake on Chuckanut Mountain. Great to get together!

We're having our typical summer morning marine layer, otherwise known as 'fog'. I love how it comes and goes, and attaches itself to various obstructions.
