Brilliant chard colors in Grandma's garden!

Sunday, August 28, 2011

I want to sleep in the sun, but it's a little toooo warm, so I'll slip into this space between the wall and the file cabinet. zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I love these garden spiders that take on the coloring of the flower they live in. I've seen them in purple and yellow, and this one sports pink stripes like the oregano flower she's on.
Poor Apollo has gotten short shrift in photos lately, upstaged by the kitten Took. But he came out with me this morning and rolled around in the sun. He's being a very good big brother!

Kitten yawns in the sunny spot by the door,
 totally relaxed,
intent,
playing with camera strap.

The gorgeous view of the top of Holmes Harbor, from the bedroom window of the clients I met with today.

Not the happiest kitten after a bath, but he'll get over it!

Tuesday, August 23, 2011

When all else fails, the kitty is always good for some fun photos! Especially when he gets to go out and play in the tall grass, with birds flying around!

I always like to see the Madrona trees begin to peel their papery bark. The fresh green underneath creates a wonderful contrast, and the peelings are infinitely different. Below, some type of insect has left trails on the bark.

The basket I made at Basket Day yesterday.

Kitties playing around the scratching post - they'll lay there and bat at each other - having fun!

Basket Day at Meridian Park! It's a fun get-together with classes where the Guild pays the teachers. I took a "Vessels of Light" class from Kay Harradine - above is the view from inside one of the student's baskets. We created a framework and covered it in translucent paper.
Of course, I decided to try a different shape, and I filled it with paper-covered orbs, as well. Very Fun!
Most of the class baskets - as you can see, a wide array of shapes and sizes and papers.
Vicki collected some leaves to apply to hers.

Another pretty day - we've had a WHOLE WEEK of sun and somewhat warm weather - hasn't gotten above 75, but at least it's sunny! Except for early mornings - the marine fog layer sometimes takes a while to burn off, and those poor folk on the Olympic Peninsula have to wait even longer! Above - around 10:00, below, 1:00.

 The greens of late summer!

TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 2011

Flowers at Suze's house above, and the view below. A shallow layer of fog hugs the far shore.

The boys are chillin' with their toys,
but now it's time to wash!

This field of grasses is gorgeous in the sun - I've been watching for the right weather to get a shot.
Early in the morning mama deer brought the twins to steal apples from our trees. They have already eaten everything they can reach, so I guess the rest are safe for now. The twins still have a few spots left, but getting big!

Well, I finally decided on a name: Peregrin Took. Tookers for short. Or, "you fool of a Took!" Maybe even Pippin. He seems to embody the essence of the silly character in the Lord of the Rings.
And he likes to help me work!

Went to the Auto Show in Oak Harbor today - lots and lots of very cool cars - loved all the bright colors and paint jobs.
 Roadrunner
 Challenger
Shelby GT
Not all of them were shiny!

Part of the crowd.
Then, I stopped in Coupeville on the way home, where the Arts Festival was underway. They had the two tall ships, Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain there. You could buy tickets for rides, http://www.historicalseaport.org/, and while out in Penn Cove they fired their cannons at each other.

 Full moon tonight, with clouds.
Earlier in the day, crows on the power lines.

We got the latest book from the Yahoo Group Photo Art Journals. This time the subject was Circles and Triangles, and Catherine put them together with a double binding!

Here are a couple of the inside pages.
