Cammassia quamash. Common camas. It's a fairly rare plant that only grows in prairie areas in the rain shadow of the Puget Sound area. The Native Americans ate the bulb, and even farmed them. The only place they grow on Whidbey Island is in this field south of Coupeville, and this is the first time I've seen so many! What a sight - I had to turn around and go back to take the photos.
