This hawk (or another very much like him) observes the world from his perch at the top of the cedar tree every day. It grows in the middle of the field at Greenbank Farm - a lonely sentinel in the fog. It's a landmark for everyone who travels up and down the highway.

And that's what I was doing today - traveling up the highway to Coupeville in the fog. I hope there isn't a law against taking photos while you're driving, although I suppose there SHOULD be! Thank goodness I have an automatic camera. But I love this shot - it evokes the feel of a monotonous, lonely drive. But of course on the Island the scenery changes a lot, and it is never monotonous!
